DESCRIPTION
The Islamic Association of Nova Scotia completed an energy-efficiency and resiliency retrofit to strengthen its Dartmouth mosque as a low-carbon community hub and reliable warming centre during extreme weather events. The project upgraded the facility with high efficiency heat pumps and installed a 41 kW solar array, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving year-round comfort and lowering operating costs. By enhancing the mosque’s ability to remain operational during power outages and climate-related disruptions, the initiative expanded access to a safe, welcoming space for community members in times of need. Through these improvements, the Association advanced local energy independence and contributed to a more resilient, sustainable future for the surrounding neighbourhoods.
