DESCRIPTION

Saint Mary’s University helped strengthen coastal resilience in Nova Scotia by supporting communities in Barrington, West Hants, and the Town of Pictou to adopt nature-based shoreline practices using the Green Shores for Homes methodology. The project provided residential property owners and municipalities with practical guidance on restoring and managing healthy coastal and riparian environments, including homeowner shoreline assessments and design support. New training modules, case study examples, and community workshops equipped residents with the knowledge and tools needed to plan and implement nature-based adaptation practices. Through this work, the initiative will expand local capacity to protect shorelines, enhance ecosystem health, and build long-term climate resilience.
