Disaster Debris Management Plan for Municipal Operations

Cape Breton Regional Municipality developed a Disaster Debris Management Plan to guide how debris is removed, recycled, and responsibly managed after severe weather or other emergency events. The plan strengthens municipal preparedness, supports climate adaptation, and reduces environmental impacts by integrating sustainable debris-handling practices, ecosystem restoration, and emissions reduction considerations into daily operations. Designed to be shareable with other municipalities across the province, it also provides clear procedures, guidelines, and templates that can help build broader community resilience in the face of increasingly severe climate related events.
